Upcoming tournaments are in-person and open to all players from public, private, charter and home schools in grades 12 & below.
New York, NY, January 31, 2023 – Kasparov Chess Foundation in association with the Renaissance Knights Chess Foundation and American Chess Academy, present the 2023 Greater Chicago K – 12 Scholastic Championships to be held on February 4, and 2023 Greater California Super City Championships to be held on February 26. Both tournaments are open to K – 12 graders in public, private, charter and home schools.
“We are excited to welcome students to a safe tournament setting where they can interact with one another, while competing for individual and school team prizes,” explained Kasparov Chess Foundation President, Michael Khodarkovsky. “These experiences are invaluable for students, now more than ever, helping to shape young peoples’ educational and interpersonal skills, while building their confidence,” added Mr. Khodarkovsky.

2023 Greater Chicago Scholastic Chess Championships
When: February 4, 2023
Where: McCormick Place – West Building 2301 S Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Drive, Chicago, IL
Format:
- Championship sections: 4-Round, Swiss System
- Reserve & Novice sections: 5-Round, Swiss System
Schedule:
- Championship sections: Rounds: 10:00, 12:30, 2:30 & 4:30
- Reserve & Novice sections: Rounds: 10:00, 12:00, 2:00, 3:30 & 5:00
- Awards: 6:30
Entry Fee:
- $ 50 postmarked/online by 12/31
- $ 65 postmarked/online by 1/20
- $ 80 online by 2/3
- $ 100 Onsite
Prizes:
- Trophies top 5 players, top 2 schools
- Any player who scores 4 or more points and doesn’t win a trophy will receive a medal!

Format: All sections: 5-Round, Swiss System
Schedule:
- Round times: 10:00, 11:15, 12:30, 1:45 & 3:00
- Awards: 4:00
Prizes:
- 60 trophies awarded
- Winners of top-rated sections will also get a bonus $1300 in cash prizes
Entry Fee:
- Early Bird: $60 before 1/20
- Regular Fee: $75 before 2/20
- Late Fee: $90 by 5pm 2/25
