-- Girls from 23 states came with their game faces on to the Second Annual All-Girls National Chess Championships, which took place
in Chicago, May 14 - 15, 2005. The tournament, organized by the Kasparov Chess Foundation, and sponsored by Chess Wizards and the USCF,
featured competition among 209 girls, ages 5 through 18 from
public, private and home schools throughout the United States.
"All girls who participated were truly winners," explained Michael Khodarkovsky, tournament director and president of Kasparov Chess Foundation. "This tournament is so important to the game of chess. We are creating an environment where young women can flourish. The friendships they formed, experienced gained and memories they'll share from this weekend will last a lifetime," he added

In addition to the weekend tournament, guests were treated to a special awards ceremony and authograph session with 2-Times US Women's Champion Jennifer Shahade.
