Kasparov Chess Foundation Presents Second Annual All-Girls National Chess Championships

In Association with Chess Wizards and USCF,
Chess Championships to Take Place May 13-15, 2005

Chicago, IL, Dec. 23, 2004 -- Kasparov Chess Foundation, the non-profit chess educational organization founded by world chess champion Garry Kasparov, today announced the second annual, National All-Girls Chess Championships, to be held at the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, May 13 and May 15, 2005.

Kasparov Chess Foundation is presenting the tournament in association with Chess Wizards and the United States Chess Federation (USCF). Girls from public, private and home-schools are invited to participate. Teams will compete within the following age categories: 8 years old and younger; 10 years old and younger; 12 years old and younger; 14 years old and younger; 16 years old and younger; 18 years old and younger.

Trophies will be awarded to the top 15 individual players and top three teams in each section. Three or more players from the same school make up a team (team scores will be calculated based on the top 3 scores to give teams their final standings). Every player will receive a souvenir medal to honor their participation.

The main competition will be hosted at Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza: 350 North Orleans Street, Chicago, IL, phone: (312) 836-5000. The tournament schedule follows:

Main Event, Six Round Swiss System, G/60, Starts May 14th:
Saturday, May 14: Opening Ceremony: 9:00 AM
Saturday, May 14: Rounds 1 - 4; 9:30-11:30 AM; 12:00-2:00 PM; 3:00-5:00 PM; 5:30-7:30 PM
Sunday, May 15: Rounds 5 - 6; 9:00-11:00 AM; 11:30 AM-1:30 PM
Sunday, May 15: Closing Ceremony: 2:30 PM

Side Events
In addition to the main competition, several side events will be taking place at Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza, as well as the closing ceremony. As a special offer to all competitors and their guests, the Holiday Inn Chicago Mart Plaza will offer a guaranteed Chess rate of $109 if reservations are made by April 10th. Please note, side events are open to girls only.

The competition is now accepting entry applications for participants. Entry fee: $40 through May 1st, and $60 thereafteror on-site on Fri., May 13.
