-- Kasparov Chess Foundation today announced the 2010 Annual National All-Girls Chess Championships, to be held in Columbus, OH, at the Hyatt Regency Columbus, April 16 - 18, 2010. The non-profit chess educational organization, founded by world chess champion Garry Kasparov, is hosting its seventh year of the tournament in association with the University of Texas at Dallas (UTD) and United States Chess Federation (USCF).
This year, as previously, the tournament welcomes girls from public, private and home-schools. Teams will compete within the following age categories: 8 years old and younger; 10 years old and younger; 12 years old and younger; 14 years old and younger; 16 years old and younger; 18 years old and younger.
As a special award, The University of Texas at Dallas has established an Academic Distinction Scholarship for the winner of the 18 years old and younger section. The scholarship is valued at $68,000 for an out-of-state student. More information on the scholarship can be found at

Our university furnishes an ideal environment of support for young women chess players to achieve their academic goals with our programs in high-quality science, technology, engineering, and business education and research. Our faculty consists of some of the nation's best scholars and researchers. The UT Dallas campus is surrounded by high tech industries, ideal for mutual interaction as well as for employment of UT Dallas graduates," he added.

Main Event, Six Round Swiss System, G/90:
Fri., April 16: Opening Ceremony: 6:00 PM
Fri., April 16: Round 1; 6:30 PM
Sat., April 17: Rounds 2 - 4; 10:00 AM, 2:30 PM 7 6:30 PM
Sun., April 18: Rounds 5 - 6; 9:00 AM & 1:00 PM
Sun., April 18: Awards Ceremony: 5:00 PM
Trophies will be awarded to the top 15 individual players and top three teams in each section. Three or more players from the same school make up a team (team scores will be calculated based on the top 3 scores to give teams their final standings). All players will receive a souvenir medal to honor their participation.

The tournament is now accepting entry applications for participants. Entry fee: $50 if postmarked by March 21, 2010 and $70 if by April 4, 2010. On site registration is $90. Do not mail after April 8, 2010 as your entry may not be received on time.
